We need English proficiency, not toys for the military

We need English proficiency, not toys for the military

The heartbreaking news that Thailand ranks 42nd of 44 countries in English proficiency give us the impression that we are going bust because our performance is not only bad but also far behind Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

............ .......................

"This isn't the first time we've been told our English isn't that good. The release of UK-based Eduction First's (EF) research only opens old wounds. More painful is to see Malaysia rank 9th and become the only high-proficiency English country outside Europe. We acknowledge the problem but the sad fact is that it remains without getting enough attention from policy-makers, the Education Ministry in particular.
